State farm insurance was founded in 1922. The father
of this company was George Jacob "G.J."
Mecherle. As from it’s name a company of farmers for a state.
There was a thought behind opening this company. According to Mecherle
the farers should pay less for premiums on auto insurance as compared
to others as there are fewer chances to got accident for them. We
can say there was sympathy from him for farmers. He was interested
in opening the company especially for farmers. And he did it. He organizes
it in 1922.
Now a day this company is the leader in providing insurance. Today,
there are 17,000 agents with 68,000 employees
serving over 75 million policies in united sate in
Canada.
History
June 7th 1922 Mecherle’s 45th birthday. He gave a gift to himself
by starting his dream company the State Farm Insurance. He established
it on temporary office in Durley Building on Jefferson Street in Bloomington,
IL. He sold his company to a local farmer Henry Stubblefield.
In 1925 there were around 175 agents for this company
State Farm published its first Road Atlas in 1937
In 1938 Sate Farm crossed the border of USA and it
reached in Canada with making it’s office at Toronto, Ontario.
Now a days State Farm serving customers throughout Alberta, New Brunswick,
and Ontario.
Beside Auto Insurance, Sate farm added a new product
of Homeowners insurance in 1955.
The Decade of 1960 to 1970 was the decade of real improvement
for state farm.
State farm launched its first discount insurance known as
Good Student Discount in 1963.
In 1964 State farm insurance got its position of number one
in providing homeowners insurance.
In 1980 State farm got its web based architecture. In starting
of this decade a Computer based system was generated known as ECHO.
The major revolution in internet was got in 1995.
